Rohinton Soli Screwvala (Chairman & Managing Director)
Rohinton S. Screwvala is a founder of UTV Software Communications Limited. Since our inception in 1990, he has helped the company evolve into a Pan-Asia Entertainment Company, within a span of fourteen years.
During the 1990's, while the national broadcaster (Doordarshan) enjoyed a monopoly in television broadcasting, he gave the Indian viewers first taste of choice, when he started India's very first Cable TV network.
Today, not only has he built up one of India's first corporate media & entertainment houses, with full-fledged divisions catering to various aspects of the entertainment industry, but has also contributed to the growth of the Television, Animation, Feature Film and broadcasting industries in India, Singapore and Malaysia.
Mr. Screwvala graduated from Mumbai's Cathedral and John Cannon School and Sydenham College of Commerce. He also has a passion for the theatre and, as a hobby, has a acted in several theatre productions. Mr. Screwvala is a recognized media name in Asia, and is regularly invited to lecture and participate in global forums in the US, UK and Europe.
Zarina Mehta - (Non Executive Director)
Zarina Mehta is one of the three founder directors of UTV, and is on the Board of the UTV Software Communications Limited. Over the last 15 years, Zarina has been responsible for the start-up & creation of some of UTV's major divisions and has produced over 3500 hours of high TRP, award-winning television programming in multiple languages. Zarina is also a multi-award-winning director of corporate documentaries with a passion for children's television. Mehta's initial training was as theatre actor; she has performed in several leading productions. Mehta is a graduate of St. Xavier's College Mumbai where she did her BA in Eco (Honours).
Sanjaya Kulkarni (Non-Executive Independent Director)
Sanjaya Kulkarni is a Banker who was associated with Citibank,20th Century Finance Corporation Limited,Centurian Bank etc. A MBA from IIM Ahemdabad,Sanjaya has varied experience in consumer finance treasury,merchant banking etc.He has been on our Board since December 2002
Deven Khote (Exceutive Director)
Mr. Deven Khote is a Commerce graduate from Mumbai University and has played a key role in establishing the credentials of the Company.
Starting his career on UTV's early TV Game and Quiz shows, he simultaneously trained as an Editor and set up the first high end editing and special effects facility in India. His TV credits include the multiple award-winning "Lifeline", which he conceived, edited and co-directed.
He helped establish UTV as one of India's Advertising Film production companies, directing films for most major national and international Clients and Advertising agencies, across all brands and market segments. These included Britannia, Coca-Cola, Colgate, Fiat, Godrej, Hero Honda, HLL, J & J, Lakme, LG, Liberty, Maruti, P & G, Pepsi, Raymonds, Tata Tea and Videocon. He has also made various Public Service films including the award-winning 'Doodh... Piyo Glassful' for NDDB.
Darius Shroff (Non-Executive Independent Director)
Darius, BALLB, Attorney at Law, is a Senior Partner in Crawford Bayley & Co., Solicitors & Advocates. He has been on the Board of the Company since May 2000. Darius is also on the Board of various other companies, Associations, Chambers of Commerce, Bar Councils etc.
Suketu Shah (Non-Executive Independent Director)
Suketu is the Joint Managing Director of Mukund Limited, a special steel and alloys producer. He has worked in leading global and Indian organization like Bajaj Auto, International Finance Corporation, American Express Bank, etc. He is also associated with various Indian and International trade bodies like Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Alloys Steel Producers Association, Harvard Business School Association of India, etc.
Andy Bird (Non-Executive Director)
Mr. Andy Bird, President, Walt Disney International is a talented executive with strong media, entertainment and business experience. He has built businesses in Europe, Latin America and Asia. Over the past three years he has overseen a remarkable growth and expansion of Disney's businesses in overseas markets. Prior to Disney, Mr. Andy Bird was with Time Warner, where he worked in cable televisions, broadcasting and the wireless arena.
Prem R. Mehta (Non-Executive Independent Director)
Mr. Prem Mehta a MBA and a graduate in Commerce until recently was the Chairman and Managing Director of Lintas India Pvt Ltd, India's leading communications Group. Lintas India is a part of the Lowe & Partners global advertising network, which in turn is a member of the Interpublic Group of Companies USA, a multi-billion dollar communications group.
Mr. Mehta's experience also includes long years on the marketing side with organizations like Unilever and Proctor & Gamble where he lead the launch of many products during his tenure.
Professionally, Mr Mehta has been awarded the "Hall of Fame" by the Advertising Agencies Association of India as well as the Advertising Club, Calcutta. He has been visiting faculty at Northpoint, Mumbai University and has periodically addressed executive MBA students of Columbia University, HEC School, and has been a regular speaker at Industry forums.
Narendra Ambwani (Non-Executive Independent Director)
Mr. Narendra Ambwani an Electrical Engineer from IIT Kanpur and PGDBA-IIT Ahemdabad until March, 2009 was the Managing Director of Johnson & Johnson India (J & J India). During his tenure, Business Today rated J & J Consumer as No.3 in 2007 survey of "Best Companies to work for in India".
Mr. Narendra Ambwani participated in Boards of Leading Corporation or social organizations and deploy the experience and technical mastery accumulated over 25 years in position of strategic importance. Mr. Narendra is associated with the Borad of Governors of ASCI (Since 2007), National and Western Region FMCG Committee of CII as a member (Since 2004), OTC committee of OPPI as a member (Since 2007) and ECR as a Co-Chairman.
Kevin Mayer (Non-Executive Director)
Mr. Kevin Mayer a MBA from Harvard University is the Executive Vice President, Corporate Strategy, Business Development and Technology Group of The Walt Disney Company since June 2005.. Mr. Mayer leads the smaller, tightly focused group as it targets emerging businesses new to Disney's existing portfolio, manages cross-divisional issues and opportunities and evaluates new technology and business model.
While at Disney, Mr. Mayer worked in both strategic planning and at Walt Disney Internet Group.At the internet group, he served as executive vice president and as such was responsible for the operations, business plans, creative direction and distribution of Disney's popular websites, including ESPN.com and ABC News.com
Mr. Sanjay Purohit, is a seasoned business leader with over 20 years experience in creating and growing profitable businesses and brands across varied consumer product categories. He joined Cadbury India in 1999 as Head of Marketing and has since held roles of increasing responsibility in the Sales & Marketing function of Cadbury. Currently, he has a dual responsibility - Executive Director Marketing for Cadbury in India and Head of Chocolate Category in Asia. Prior to this, he headed Marketing and International Business for Cadbury India.
Before joining Cadbury, he worked for Mobil India as the Regional Sales Manager for Mobil Peevees Ltd. Prior to this; he worked for Asian Paints as a Product Manager.
Mr. Sanjay has done his Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering from the National Institute of Technology in 1986 and his MBA from the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore.
Mr. Robert Gilby, is currently Managing Director of Disney ABC International Television Asia Pacific. In this role he is responsible for distributing all Disney's movies, television series and channels to broadcasters, platforms and Interactive across the Asia Pacific region.
With more than 16 years of Broadcasting and Media experience, Robert has held a variety of leadership roles in the Asia Pacific and European regions within leading global organisations such as The Walt Disney Company, Time Warner and PricewaterhouseCoopers.
As a passionate advocate of the Indian broadcast industry, Mr. Robert has more than 10 years experience in the Indian media industry across sectors such as production, movies, entertainment and news broadcast networks, in various in roles of general management, marketing, strategy, finance and business development.
